Kali Linux is a Debian-based Linux distribution aimed at advanced Penetration Testing and Security Auditing. Kali contains several hundred tools which are geared towards various information security tasks, such as Penetration Testing, Security research, Computer Forensics and Reverse Engineering. Kali Linux is developed, funded and maintained by Offensive Security, a leading information security training company.

It is the successor of BackTrack Linux. Kali is loaded with tons of tools for hacking. I provide a very neat and easy process to clone a GitHub repository and use it.
It is Open-Source  i.e. completely free of charges. You can alter it and make it according to ur desire. You can tweak or rebuild any tool according to ur needs if you know some programming.

Now that you know the basic information, let’s get started using it.

Download Kali

Go to this site. You would see something like this.

You can choose a torrent file or an image file. Depending on your PC, choose 64 or 32-bit file.If you are not sure, download the 32-bit, it will run on either a 32-bit or 64-bit system.

You need to burn the iso file to a DVD or USB. If you want to run it in a virtual machine, then you don’t need to burn it.

Install Kali

For our purposes here, I would recommend installing into a virtual machine (VM). In that way, you can practice hacking between systems all on your box and evade breaking any laws and being separated from your computer for a few years. The two best virtualization systems are VMWare’s Workstation and Oracle’s Virtual Box.A big difference between the two is the price. VMWare’s Workstation is about $180 and Oracle’s Virtual Box is free. Can’t beat that price!

Follow the steps shown in images to install Kali Linux on a VM.I am using Oracle’s Virtual Box.

1.Create a new Virtual Machine and fill in the details.Select version – Debian 32-bit (coz it can run both 64-bit and 32-bit image file)

2.Allocate the memory to Kali Linux. Recommended is 768MB(least needed) but you can increase it as per your PC’s ram and requirement.

3.Specify the hard disk. You can leave it on default and select CREATE.

This slideshow requires JavaScript.

4.Specify the file location and size. If you want to change the disk size, then you are free to do that. The default will be 8GB, you can also work on this.

5.Now, that you have created a virtual machine let’s configure for use.Select the VM and click Settings. You can leave everything on default, but you need to configure the storage settings. Click on disk shape in front of Controller:IDE

Save these settings.
Now it’s time to install Kali. Select the VM and click on Start option in the panel.
You can even run Kali in Live Mode(all data will be lost after shutdown).
Let’s see how to install Kali..

1.Graphical Install —> English(as per your choice)

2.Select your preferred language. Type in your host. If you don’t know leave it.

3.Leave the domain blank and Enter your root password in next step.

4.Wait for some time while the system configures.Select Guided medium for partitioning disk

5.Leave it as it is without making any changs and click Continue.

6.Select Yes, when asked ‘Write changes to disk?’ and continue.
